Scotland in May
I've just enjoyed a few wonderful days in Scotland being thoroughly spoilt by my best mate and her hubby. Three carefree days. Not exactly lazy as we did manage to fit in some serious "mother of the bride" shopping in Perth. Being my best mate, my best mate insisted that I get fitted for a bra. Only she would get away with even suggesting such a thing and because I trust her off we went into the lingerie department of Marks and Sparks. Crikes!! I'm in the cubical with a strange women who's fitting my person into the correct size and shape of a hitherto-never-tried-on-very-lacy-pretty-undergarment. And what a difference!! I'd been wearing bra's of completely the wrong size, all these years!! I bought pants to match too!! Unheard of!! My daughter informs me that I'm the only person she knows who doesn't match bra and pants but I can't believe that. Is that true!! I felt very pleased with my new purchases and very grateful to my best mate who steered me through the whole embarassing experience. Now that I've overcome that hurdle I feel confident that I'll be able to do that again if needs be. Like if I lose a lot of weight for instance..............yeh right!
Our picnic siteThe good weather prevailed on my return from Scotland so we had a whole day on the boat. Bliss! We had to be down on the mooring by 9.30am anyway, to meet a chap who was going to replace the steering mechanism on the boat. He promised to be there at 9.30am. Well that came and went - but he didn't! So did 10 o'clock and 10:30. At 10.45 I was beginning to lose patience. He is not known for his punctuality (obviously) but he's a good sort and does a wonderful job. The sun was shining, we had tea, sunshine, comfy seats and a wonderful view so how hard was it, really? I gave him a call on his mobile, "Hi Ade", I said cheerfully, "we're at the club. How are you getting on?" "I'm just pulling into the car park", he said, "sorry I'm so late but being Monday morning the phone hasn't stopped and eight people came into the workshop before I could leave". "No worries", I said feeling bottom of the list of priorities as usual, "you're here now. We'll be round to help you carry your stuff".
An hour later the job was done and at the price he'd quoted which was great. We paid the money and said our goodbyes. The day was yet young so we slipped our moorings and headed off up river with the birds singing all around us and a picnic waiting for us in the cool bag. We met nobody on the water. There were a couple of boats moored up, their occupants sitting on the bank with tables and sunshades enjoying their own picnic, but we had the river to ourselves. We saw a heron; a pair of geese with their very young, very fluffy goslings; a swan on it's nest that hissed at us as we passed; a skylark and a red kite (not in the same area I hasten to add). After cruising for an hour and a half we moored up for a long lazy lunch. Nobody passed us on the water as we snoozed in the sunshine.
The trip back down river was just as enjoyable but quicker as always when travelling down stream. We arrived back on our mooring after a very relaxing trip, pleased with the performance of the new steering gear and looking forward to a season full of such pleasant days.
Today 'im indoors was back to work. Tomorrow I'm doing a couple of hours work in the afternoon invigilating at the exams at the local senior school then it's catching up with the housework and preparing for a few days down in Dorset with son, daughter, noodles 1 and 2. We'll be spending time with my Dad and his wife as we do every year.
Talking of noodle - the pot noodle has popped and it's covered in seedlings. I'll get that pic I promised. You wait till she sees them at the weekend! What fun!
Oh and I bought a different "fascinator" in Scotland too. The one I bought previously featured in an episode of East Enders so that was the end of that!! Pic of that to follow too.

Lovely photos. Sounds like you've had a great time, over the past few days. I'm glad that the boat is sorted out, now, and that the seeds have sprouted! I think that I've just got time to plant some cosmos seeds if I'm speedy. I've been through the bra fitting experience, too. It's a bit embarrassing, but worth it!
Ok, run that by me again.
You invigilate in the local secondary school?
You mean the teachers who work there and have exams to write and mark, schemes to update, reports to write, standardised tests to devise, text books to collect in and repair and resources to manage can actually get on with their work and don't have to spend two hours a day in a hall watching kids frown?
Are there any jobs going at that school?
that sounds COMPLETELY divine!!! i could almost feel that summer breeze! i got fitted for a bra last month too - sizing was way off. over 80% of women (worldwide i now believe!) wear the wrong size bra, and i did ALSO buy some matching undies, but it's a rare thing for me too! love the post - DH and i have a canal boat trip on our 'to do' list for the future!
Love Scotland & your photos are superb. reminds me of lovely holidays that I've had.
mean mom - go on, plant some cosmos. They'll be a lovely late show for you. Flick x
working mum - yes, they employ invigilators on a sessional basis so it suits me fine. The school is huge, over 1000 pupils so maybe that has something to do with it. Yes there are vacancies if you're interested! Flick x
scrappysue - do have a go at boating - soon, the girls will love it. I guarantee you'll be hooked! Flick xx
maggie may - glad you enjoyed the photo of Scotland. It certainly is a beautiful place. Flick xx
So, Flick, 'im indoors won't stop working and you are now drifing back into it again! Sounds familiar to me!
retired & crazy - yes it does doesn't it. This is a job I can do when I want and not when I don't want. I had said no to working all of May and June, when the exams are on, because it is the best time of the year, weatherwise. They rang me this week and asked if I would help out for one afternoon so I said yes. No commitment you see, great! 'im indoors has promised not to work during the school holidays this year so we'll be able to get away often, which is my dream. Thanks for picking up on it though, made me think. Flick xx
Now no cheap gags from me about your "fascinator" and what that might be a euphanism for !!!!!
and welcome to the world of matching undies, even though no one sees mine, I always have beautiful lingerie, it just makes me feel better about myself
auntiegwen - a fascinator is one of those not-quite-a-hat-feathery-things that women wear at weddings and funerals these days. Honest! Your right about beautiful lingerie making you feel good. I've wasted so much time!!! Flick xx
There is nothing like the proper fitting bra! It makes one look positively slim again!
And no Dusty - you are not the only one who doesn't match their panties to their bra....guilty as charged am I!
As a bezzy mate, I love my bezzy mate to feel the best that she can! And, I'm so glad you do.
Please, do write about your experiences with gathering the 'wild ones' into the hall for their exams. love, Karen xx
So you were in Scotland too? i was away for two weeks in the old homeland - had a great time.
I know what you mean about the old bra fitting. M&S did mine too and what a difference it makes, especially if you are top heavy like me.
Your trip out on the boat sounds just idyllic. Great stuff!
aims - I'm glad I'm not alone! Flick xx
t&c - Oh, all right then! Flick xx
mob - To think we might have seen each other! How strange. We love boating it certainly is idyllic. Flick xx
