An Oasis

Bank Holidays, and August Bank Holiday in particular, are times when people head out to the coast or to a country park or some other family entertainment, depending on their taste. At least that's what the traffic reports seem to be telling me judging by the holdups on the motorways, the approaches to the coastal resorts and other attractions. That's why me and 'im indoors NEVER go anywhere on Bank Holidays.

The garden is quiet; all the neighbours seem to have joined the rush.

The telephone is quiet; family and friends seem to have joined the rush.

Daughter is quiet; they're having a bbq for some friends.

Son is quiet; they've gone on holiday to Cyprus.

Mother is quiet; she's having my brother over for a visit.

Father is quiet; he'll be enjoying the Olympics on the telly.

So I'm enjoying this little oasis. Nowhere I need to go, nothing pressing to do, just a time to relax, go for a walk, read a little and catch up with the blog.

I remember thinking, when I worked every day, that Bank Holidays are the only days away from work when your intray/inbox is not piling up in your absence. Because everybody else is away from work too. Bliss! So why make the days off stressful by dashing off to join a traffic queue?

I rest my case.

Like you I enjoy the quiet. My big plan for today is to read The Sunday Times in the garden !

You're impressed with my ambition now aren't you ?

Dusty - very sensible - when we did all that rushing around on bank holidays we (that is Bob and I) were much younger and there was much less traffic.

Enjoy your weekend!

We have the same philosophy. I never try to go anywhere on a Bank Holiday. Perfect day for staying home and chillin'!

I suppose everyone is away. Can be a bit lonely for some! But a bit of peace & quiet is a good thing, as long as it doesn't go on for ever as eventually, you miss the chaos.

scrappy sue - Why does your link not update properly? Very strange. I don't take any notice of it though and visit regularly. 3months indeed! Flick x

Alas, we live in one of those destination towns, so if we wanted quiet, we'd have to go to where they came from in order to get it. So things I don't do on holidays include going to Safeway, Fred Meyer or Costco, driving, going downtown.

mom of three - you have my sympathies. My Dad lives in Dorset and we always laugh about how quiet it is where I live in the summer and how hectic it is where he lives. Flick x

How lovely, given your recent hectic life, it's lovely to have a peaceful break with no pressures. Bank Holiday here was quiet because it was raining! But we went to the Windmills as planned on Sunday. Great success! M xx
