The good old British weather is living up to it's reputation by delivering the most miserable, drizzly, cold, dark day for the longest day of the year. We won't be able to experience the longest day because it will be cut short by the clouds bringing the night in early.
But today is also a very happy day as we have Noodle to stay until tomorrow. We've already made a shopping list, a mess and jelly. Not bad for a morning I don't think. Daddy has taken her to a party this afternoon so me and 'im indoors have reverted to our usual afternoon activities - him reading in the other room and me surfing t'internet and keeping the washing machine going, all without the aid of a safety net I might add!
Noodle will be back to have tea with us. Sausages were the preferred option, oh and jelly of course. I wonder how many stories I will read Noodle tonight? That's such a special time and an opportunity I treasure. We're bound to read Maisie Goes Camping. That's Noodle's absolute favourite. She knows it so well she says it with me and we laugh so much because we know what's coming. Then there's Thomas the Tank Engine. Another favourite of Noodle's but I'm just getting used to those stories. She knows the characters really well. On a visit to the Nene Valley Railway last Christmas she was beside herself when Santa arrived in a railway carriage pulled by Thomas himself. She almost bounced off Grandad's shoulders!
This week there have been a lot of wedding preparations. We had our makeup rehearsal last Saturday. I am now the proud owner of a pair of trim, balanced and shapely eyebrows. I hope you're impressed! We were very pleased with the makeup that was chosen for us and we all agreed we looked stunning. With nowhere to go.
On Monday we ordered the cake from M&S.
On Tuesday Daughter and her bessy mate/bridesmaid had dress fittings. Daughter looked stunning and I had a tear in my eye. Bridesmaid looked wonderful too and was very pleased with the flattering effect of the dress. She is very shy and doesn't take compliments easily but I hope I was able to convince her that she looked gorgeous. Because she did.
On Wednesday we finalised the arrangements with the florist. All the flowers will be colour co-orginated with the wedding outfits. It will be beautiful. The other members of the wedding party are two more young bridesmaids, Noodle and a seven year old from the grooms side, and two page boys one 5 and one 7. More than enough for bessie mate bridesmaid to handle. Plus of course Noodle 2 who also has a special little dress and silk shoes. No photo's until after the event so don't ask. Daughter would KILL me!
On Thursday we took the chain daughter will wear to the jewellers to be shortened. (It goes with a pendant that I wore at my wedding - see previous posts).
On Friday I babysat noodle 2 while daughter took chocolate labrador Poppy to the vet for annual jabs and duplicates of vet's records which were lost in daughter's recent move. Well, probably not lost but they are somewhere in the garage and we all agreed it would be far easier to get duplicates than to start rummaging through boxes piled to the roof.
So here we are, only three weeks to go. Next weekend is the first of two hen nights - oh dear, not a sober breath will be drawn!

apart from the weather, it sounds like a fun and exciting week!
I love your new heading. WOW you sound busy. I look forward to my daughters weddings. But not anytime soon. I hope. But we do have school proms and Homecoming's. I love to see her try on formal gowns. But I am not sure she can wear a pair of fancy shoes. She will look glamorous as long as she don't walk.
All of this, and STILL without a safety net, I bet! Ooohh, excitement!! Lovely Post, love Karen xx
Yes.... what a heading! You must be excited about the wedding. not long now.
What a busy time , I love the " we made a list, a mess and a jelly, not bad for a morning's work ! "
That made me smile !
scrappysue - it's definitely "all go" from now on but I'm really enjoying it. Flick x
mignon - a daughter's wedding is something you visualise as they grow. I can't believe it's only a couple of weeks away and I'm so looking forward to it. Your turn will come - all too soon probably. Flick xx
T&C - yes, still no safety net but I'm managing to keep all the balls in the air so far. Keep everything crossed for me oh and get packing!! Flick xx
maggie may - yes it's very exciting and I'm really enjoying it. Flick x
auntiegwen - She's great fun, that Noodle! Flick x
Wedding plans sound exciting (and help to compensate for the appalling weather - wind here so loud I can barely think). Having 2 sons I do feel a bit sad sometimes that this is a stage I'll never go through, sob! Good luck with the next three weeks!!
You sound like you live near me! Though we have finally had some beautiful days. Hey, it's only almost JULY!
Weddings are fun, what is the colour scheme?
milla - yes, I think mums with sons do miss out. I'm sure there are compensations though. Flick xx
mom of three - the main colours are ivory, coffee and gold. Flick x
I'm thinking of how you will feel come the end of that extremely special day.
You'll look at the flowers as they are starting to wilt - and you'll have a pang in your heart as you watch your daughter happily leaving with her new husband.
All these preparations for a joyous day will make you feel so differently afterwards.
Sigh. I'd love to be a guest! Weddings are just so special! They make me cry!
(aren't I weird?)
Oooh! How did the first of the hen nights go then?
Sounds like you had a great time with noodle and I'm glad that the preparations are going well for the wedding. It's all very exciting!
Don't forget to line your stomach with a pint of milk before you head out on the lash! Exciting or what? Not long now Dusty!
aims - not weird at all. All you say is true. I can't imagine what we will do after the wedding. It's completely taken over for the moment. Flick xx
mean mom - first hen night went really well thanks mm. Flick x
mob - forgot the milk mob! Another hen night this saturday as well. Phew!! It's all coming together nicely. Flick x
Dear Flick, just catching up and guess you must be in the middle of all those exciting preparations (and Hen Nights) now. It all sounds wonderful. And I'm sure you will all look great too. Can't wait to see those picture. Have a lovely time! M xx
PS I love the new page heading too - it made me gasp with surprise.
If my calculations are correct, you must have your hands VERY full with the wedding right now - it's this weekend coming isn't it? Good luck and fingers crossed for some sunshine.
On the day you wrote this post, we had friends visiting and we were climbing a hill near Buxton in thick fog, driving drizzle and high winds - and it was freezing to boot! Could hear music wafting over on the gale and, peering into the gloom, we could just about make out a marquee and I assumed it was a wedding. My heart bled - could you ever imagine you would get weather like that for your wedding on the 21st June? Shocking.

Ps: my husband's nickname is Noodle and Maisy Goes Camping was (and still is!) a firm favourite with us. Love Maisy.
Those are the classiest colours I have ever heard of...
I have an award for you at my place.
Not long, now, then! Hope it all goes well.
There are awards at my place, when you have a minute to spare.
Hi Margot, Her on the Hill, MOT, MOB & Mean Mom - thanks for dropping by. I've been rather busy as you can imagine so no time for a proper post. Hen nights were great fun. Keep everything crossed for a sunny day for me won't you. Speak soon. Flick xxxx
