I know we are only half way through January but I'm feeling encouraged by the lovely comments I've had and I'm managing to stick to my resolution to worry less and enjoy life more.
I had an unexpected boost when an old schoolfriend of mine rang me yesterday. We've known each other for over 40 years but, until yesterday, I didn't realise just what she has to put up with. She has several medical conditions (she says they are not illnesses so I'll go along with that). She is deaf in one ear; she has arthritis in her right hip and knee; sciatica; something I can't remember the name of because I had never heard of it before but it affects the bowels and I can only imagine how uncomfortable that must be. She had cancer 30 years ago and they thought it had returned but thankfully it was this other thing. She also has a huge hernia that needs operating on sooner rather than later. In fact she has had an operation every year for the last five years. Is she downhearted or depressed that her conditions make life difficult at times? Does she moan when she has to cancel things because she is just too ill to go through with them? Not at all! She is cheerful, funny, positive, busy beyond belief and a joy to talk to.
If that is what positive thinking does for you then I'm having some of that!!

Good for You!
What a lovely thing for your pal to ring you up?! I bet it was like old times, eh?
I've been saying 'We've a lot to be thankful for,' a lot lately, and it's true. lotsaluv, X
Great post - very true, we need to be more like your friend and count our blessings. X
I so need to do that more, I seem to have turned into a right worry Wilma !
winter does that to me, going to work in the dark, coming home in the dark, oh for a nice crisp sunny day where I can get my trainers on and go for a run !
Roll on spring and thank you for the reminder, enjoy the simple things x
Brilliant way your friend turns all the ailments into tolerable conditions!
She is the type of person who you need around when you are down.
There is always someone worse off than me..... I have found, no matter how hard life can be.
She sounds like a great friend to have! Sorry about her problems. I suffer a little bit with arthritis, in various places. It seems to be worse in my hands, which sometimes worries me, because I love to do crafty things.
I hope that your friend retains her hearing in her other ear. I often think that deafness must be very isolating.
A good attitude can go along way. Life is what you make it, no matter the circumstance. Sounds like we can all learn alot from your friend.
T&C It was lovely to speak to Pauline but the phone call was three and a half hours!! She can talk for England bless her! xx

Geri, welcome. My friend has certainly inspired me!
I have a friend like that Flick. She has had many operations but is always cheerful and upbeat. A pleasure to be with and talk to. Lovely for you to have a good chat with your old friend, it's great to catch up isn't it.
A x
Gosh - I hope your friend is a celiac. It's no fun at all.
Some people make us realize we need to straighten up and fly right - or happier. They are a joy to be around and make us a better person.
I hope when I go that people will say that about me. Probably not - but at least I can hope! :0)
