I was tagged by Mother of this lot who asked what was on my desktop. She also very kindly sent me the instructions on how to do it. As you can see it was successful. I change my desktop picture quite often but at the moment it's of our boat as we're getting it ready for cruising again, so to keep up the motivation for getting everything ready I'm keeping the picture as a daily reminder. He (can't be a she as it has a boy's name) is moored in a very pretty spot as you can see. It's very peaceful there. We often spend the day just on the mooring with a picnic or BBQ with friends. It's like having a holiday cottage really as we don't have to book anything, just turn up. We are really hoping that the weather this year will be kinder than last (see post). This is our third boating season. I was still working full time during the first season so was only able to snatch the odd day or two at weekends and last season was a complete washout. Even when it stopped raining the river was too dangerous to use for weeks. We did use the time to make improvements to the cabin area and we also varnished all the wood in the cockpit. It looked really nice when we had finished the painting but we didn't get round to properly replacing all the wood or changing the floor covering in the cockpit so we're anxious to carry on with that work. We really enjoy just being on the boat, even if it's not moving, though cruising is the ultimate enjoyment and of course the whole point of having a boat so it would be daft to say we are satisfied with just sitting on the mooring.
Thanks for the tag MOTL I've really enjoyed chatting about our cruiser, hope you haven't all nodded off...........
So, what have you got on your desktop Maggie May, Merry Weather, Mignon,
Mother's Place is in the Wrong and Time for Tea and Cake ???????

Thanks for the tag. I like paricipating. I like your boat or your holiday cottage on the water. It looks so peaceful and relaxing. I got mine up. Warning... not as nice as yours.
I like your photo of the boat. My husband and sons liked to buy those disposable barbecues, whenever we were on the canal. A lot of men like fire, don't they??It must be a primitive thing! They scared me to death. I always sat clutching a bucket of canal water, just in case!
Okay, so even though you didn't tag me, and this is probably totally wrong in blogger etiquette, I think this is such a cool idea, I have to steal it! :)
Thank you Dusty, it's a bit late now, so I'll do your Tag tomorrow. The boat looks lovely - and a perfect spot for a picnic. M xx
There is nothing like getting away for a few days. Your boat looks great - does it get rocky and hard to sleep in when the weather is bad? It's all people need these days - somewhere to recharge the batteries.
Hope your son's next wedding and marriage is a good one. Better he should be able to have loved and lost to have never loved at all! It's good that he's not bitter about marriage after the firts one failing - good on him and anyway, you'll be there to pick up the pieces like a good mum!
mignon - Oh I don't know. Looks OK to me. Flick x
mean mom - we often have a BBQ on the mooring which is made of wood so we always have a bucket of water handy too! Have you decided if you're going to have another shot at boating? Flick x
mom of three - Fill your boots!! Everyone can join in!! Flick x
Mother's Place - glad you like it. We do have a lot of fun and relaxation at the boat. Flick x
mob - It's very comfortable to sleep in. We've only had one bumpy night when the water was so choppy we kept hitting the bank but, touch wood, it's normally very peaceful. Appreciate your comments on my son's wedding. Hadn't thought of it like that. Many thanks. Flick x
Aawh the nice !!!
I often walk along the bank as the barges sail by and think how relaxing it looks and think I should do that. Then I see all the locks and remember how directionally challenged I am and think, maybe not ...
Re your question. It is expensive to hire on the canal and I don't think we can afford anything this year. We have student son to worry about and middle son started an apprenticeship last September, so he has needed a bit of help, just recently. His first 6 months are over, now, though, so he will be getting more money, from now on. The strange thing is that student son and middle son are planning to holiday in America, in the summer! How does that work, then? How come they can afford a proper holiday, when we can't?
Forgot to say, when I came over, before that there is a short award ceremony at my place. You already have the award, however, so it's just a formality for you!
Hi! I've come to your blog via a few others that we seem to read in common. I think we were both invited to mean mom's party?
I shall be back to find out more about dusting!
All the best,
WM x
auntigwen - It's not for everyone, but we love it. Flick x
mean mom - they can afford it because you pay for everything else! Took me ages to work that one out too!! Flick x
PS I'll be popping over for the award ceremony in a tick - don't start without me!!
working mum - Welcome! Glad you popped over. Haven't dusted recently I'm afraid so if you've got your duster with you......
Yes I think I remember you from mean mom's party. I was the one cooling off in the pond minus my peek a boo bra and yes mean mom has repremanded me for that! Flick x
Hi - Sorry to have been so long picking this up - been away with the kids. This sounds an interesting tag, thanks.
That's a lovely looking boat you've got there. I can imagine a tranquil river, water lapping the sides - ah, must be bliss...
Merry Weather - Welcome back, hope you had a lovely time with the kids. Wondered if you were absent because of the hols! Your description of the boating experience is remarkably accurate! We've been down today. It was lovely. Flick xx
